Crew Combat Surrender[ | ]

You have the option to Surrender at any time. Your combat crew will lay down their weapons and combat ends immediately. Your surviving combat crew is at the mercy of your enemy and their type and your Reputation with them will determine how many are dealt fatal wounds or given mercy. If the enemy strikes a crew with a death blow then they roll their Death Save to see if they survive the fatal wound.

For example, Xeno are merciless and will deal a death blow to every surviving combatant, who will then roll their Death Save to determine their final fate.

For human foes, your death blow chance is between 25% and 100%. Each of the following factors lowers the death blow chance by 25%, until the minimum of 25%:

  • You have at least one Military Rank with the Faction you are fighting.
  • You have at least one Edict with the faction you are fighting.
  • You have above -45 Reputation with the faction you are fighting.
  • You have above 0 Reputation with the faction you are fighting.

Examples:

  • Captain Kerrin Jerrinsbane has 12 Reputation with his Cadar foes, two military ranks, and an edict. This meets all four criteria giving his fighting team each a 25% chance of being struck with a death blow as the minimum death blow chance is 25%.
  • Captain Mint Dragon has -200 Reputation with the Steel Song foes he is surrendering to but 8 military ranks and 2 edicts. This is a rare but possible situation arising from certain large negative reputation events happening rapidly. His crew's death blow chance would be based on the two matching factors, giving them each a 50% death blow chance.
  • Captain Black Vegetable has no Military Ranks, no Edicts, and -15 reputation with the Rychart weasels he is surrendering to. He meets the criteria for being above -45 reputation so his crew will each have a 75% death blow chance.
  • Captain Dimitri Elegante has no Military Ranks, no Edicts, and -1337 reputation with his House Thulun conquerors. He meets no criteria for leniency. They'll be treated as poorly as though they were being beaten by Xeno. 100% Chance of deathblow.
  • Captain Highbrow is forced to surrender to a bunch of Indepdendent Pirates. Because it is impossible to have either an Edict or a Military Rank with Indies, and reputation with them is always 0, he has a 75% chance of deathblow.

Ship Combat Defeat and Surrender[ | ]

Ship combat ends when either party is defeated or successfully escapes. In the case of escape, each ship is left free to resume travel through deep space, though they may have sustained heavy damage and/or casualties, or reputation loss.

A ship is defeated in combat under one of a couple of different scenarios. Take these conditions into account to create the best ship combat strategy possible. Resilience to defeat is a critical part of surviving harrowing combat in the void.

  • A ship whose Captain is reduced to 0 Hit Points surrenders in battle.
  • A Ship whose components no longer provide 5 Pilot Skill Pool points cannot be flown effectively in combat and surrenders. This can be caused when either a ship's Pilot components are so damaged that they can no longer provide Ship Pools, or the crew is so devastated that they can no longer provide the 5 Pilot Skill points to power the working components.
  • A Ship whose components no longer provide 5 Ship Ops Skill Pool points cannot be operated in combat and surrenders. This can be caused when either a ship's Ship Ops components are so damaged that they can no longer provide Ship Pools, or the crew is so devastated that they can no longer provide the 5 Ship Ops Skill points to power the working components.
  • A Ship whose surviving crew is reduced to less than 20% of maximum cannot be operated and surrenders.
  • A ship whose Engine component suffers more than 60% damage loses its ability to maneuver and must surrenders

One scenario is not considered a surrender, however:

  • If the ship is reduced to 0 Hull, it suffers a hull vent and total collapse. Everyone dies.
