Don't just skip over mission text, rumors or events; you will make better decisions with more information. Don't push your limits. Refuel before you get low. Always visit the doctor and spice hall when available. Avoid ship combat unless you have a good selection of Ship Combat talents available (buffing, debuffing, repair), and are not outclassed (check opposing ship details). If a rumor or conflict such as a trade ban, embargo, enemy fleet event is blocking your progress, go to independent worlds, do missions, or go exploring while you wait for it to expire.
